Dr Poul Rohleder is a clinical psychologist and a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. He is a member of the British Psychotherapy Foundation, and is on the board of Trustees of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). He is a member of the task group on Sexual and Gender Diversity within Psychoanalysis at the BPC.
He has worked in private practice and public mental health settings for over 15 years. He is trained in both time-limited and longer-term psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and is also an accredited Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy practitioner and supervisor. He works with adults providing individual psychotherapy for a range of difficulties, including sexuality and gender issues, depression and anxiety, struggles with feelings of shame and low self-esteem, intimacy and interpersonal problems. He also provides consultation on psychological matters to writers and authors.
As well as a clinician, Dr Rohleder is an experienced and established academic, and is currently a senior lecturer at the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex. He has been involved in the training of clinical psychologists and psychodynamic practitioners, and has taught clinical psychology trainees at UCL, University of East London and University of Oxford. He has published several books on clinical psychology and psychodynamic practice, and many academic papers on matters of sexuality, marginalised identities and mental health. He is on the editorial board of various academic journals, including the British Journal of Psychotherapy and Psychology and Sexuality.
